What’s Your Poison?
This commission was a real joy to work on. My client wanted something a little gothic and so I contrasted the deep aubergine ranunculus – which looks almost poisonous – with the fabulous parrot tulips whose fiery yellow and amber streaks seem to resemble a warning of danger. Combined with thorny blackberries and sea holly, plus lime green (toxic?) zinnias, and the effect is really quite dramatic! Physalis, clematis and a pair of stunning lupins bring height to the arrangement, whilst copper beech leaves and a handful of tiny chrysanthemums bring light and softness amongst the deeper russet ranunculus and purple hydrangea. Holding the arrangement is a beautiful vintage Dartmouth Pottery vase in majolica green which is in excellent condition. This creation is designed to be enjoyed on a mantlepiece or mid-sized shelf and is certainly not for the faint hearted.
